CHESAPEAKE
Alan P. Krasnoff, 60, a chiropractor who was
first elected to City Council in 1990, will be Chesapeake's newest
mayor.
He defeated Rebecca Adams, 63, a principal at
Great Bridge Middle who has been on City Council since 2006. She is
an independent who won an endorsement from the Chesapeake Democratic
Party. Krasnoff was backed by the Republicans.
Krasnoff recieved 12,512 votes, according to
preliminary results from the city registrar. Adams received 10,813
votes.
He will replace Chesapeake Mayor Dalton Edge,
who announced in January that he would not seek another term.
CITY COUNCIL
In a 15-way race for five City Council seats,
incumbents C.E. “Cliff” Hayes Jr., Patricia Willis and Dwight Parker
won, as did former councilmember Debbie Ritter and newcomer Rick West.
According to preliminary results, Suzy Kelley,
fewer than 50 votes behind Parker, lost her bid for council; as did
Rodney Foster, Thomas Arrington, Peter Conlogue, Burnie Mansfield,
John Henry Martin, Mick Meyer, Michael Murphy, Gene A. Waters and
Rodney Wilkins.
The top three vote-getters - Hayes, Ritter and
West - have won four-year council terms. Willis and Parker will get
two-year terms for seats vacated by council members Rebecca Adams
and Alan Krasnoff, who had to give up their seats to run for mayor.
SCHOOL BOARD
Incumbents Thomas Mercer, C. Jeff Bunn and Brenda
J. Johnson were winners, along with newcomer Christina F. Pullen.
Six candidates were seeking to fill four at-large
School Board seats. Two other newcomers, Melvin O. Marriner and George
Van Laethem, lost their bids for the seats.
