Alan Krasnoff, an 18-year veteran of the City Council running on a low-tax platform, was elected mayor Tuesday.

Alan P. Krasnoff, 60, a chiropractor who was first elected to City Council in 1990, will be Chesapeake's newest mayor.

Thanks to a majority of Chesapeake's voters, I will take office July 1, 2008 as Chesapeake's next mayor.

I am obviously aware that this was an election, and there will always be those who would have preferred a different outcome.

Nonetheless, the responsibility of leading Chesapeake - all of Chesapeake - now falls to me.

When that time comes, I will need your help, and I assure you I will gratefully accept it.
